Access for Hachijo
Travel by ferry from Tokyo's Hammamatsucho pier takes about 10 hours, but is an exhilarating experience. The boat leaves Tokyo at 10:30 p.m. every night, arriving at 9:30a.m. the next morning, and then departing Hachijo at 10:10 a.m. for the trip back.
Those who can't spare the time or who suffer from seasickness, might want to take the 45-minute flight from Haneda, with breathtaking views of nearby islands.
