Izu Islands English -Diving/Fishing- 日本語 Hachijojima

.

Hachijo has consistently warm water all year round due to the Kuroshio or “Black Current” which runs from Southern regions as far as Indonesia up past Hachijo and onwards to Russia. This current makes it possible to see the same sea life as in Okinawa, Ogasawara, The Phillipines, and The Marianas islands.

The characteristic lava bridges or arches as the Japanese call them , are endemic to volcanic islands. There are numerous small lava bridges and five large ones in Hachijo. Four can be reached by beach dives. The others by boat.

Sea turtles are common. Many can be viewed feeding close in to the beach. Early birds can catch them still napping in the early morning. A great photo opportunity!

Sea slugs, crustaceans, Hammer head sharks, and various other sea life can be seen here including migratory fish such as, Tuna, Amberjack and Yellow Tail .

Hachijojima's Nazumado dive point ranks in the top 5 dive points in all of Japan!

For licensed divers beach dives are available from ¥6,500-.
Or boat dives from ¥10,500-.
Full rental gear is available at extra cost.
Or rent a snorkel and face mask from Seadive dive shop
and explore the sea yourself.

Hachijo-jima has some of the best sports fishing in Japan. The relative easy access yet remote location from the mainland ensures plenty of large migratory fish. Take a charter boat for deep sea sports fishing or simply rent a small rod and reel for some pier fishing! Catch it today, sashimi tonight!
